Haha, not twitterati. I meant some mutual acquaintance of Eigen and I in person. As far as Twitter goes there's a lot.

For a first AR, don't build, buy. Sucks that right now, it's a bit steep, but an S&W M&P-15 is going for about $100 more than it did some time back. That's not horrible. You will catch the BRD (Black Rifle Disease) & want to upgrade, and end up spending more. If you don't ... /1

I'm an advocate of building your first — I did, and there's no better way to learn about how it functions, inside and out — but it's not for everyone. Comfort with tools and ability to follow detailed instructions are key attributes; it's good to know your own limitations.

Agreed. Putting together a lower receiver is child's play, almost, if you're careful. Things get dicier with putting together an upper receiver, when you'll need tools and some specific tools. It's still possible, but for a first, since you have no idea what to expect, I say buy.

100% on the build difficulty — the lower is basic, the upper is intermediate to advanced. My advice to
@eigenrobot in a side thread was build the lower, then add a near-complete upper.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Sure, you know what I mean — "build up" from stripped to complete using a parts kit. I think (hope) I was clearer about it in the other thread.
