France has 450,000 military if you count the gendarmes Which you could send to the US if the government wanted to be overthrown by pensioners Thats 1 soldier per 8.5 square miles in the US before you start taking casualties
-
You are being very generous, France could not sustain anywhere near a 450k expeditionary force in north America and whatever they could send would be irrelevant to a US ground war. Civil war won't happen in the US though

The red areas also also sparsely populated and have long logistic line. A competent military could deal with them piecemeal. Yes, only coasts would be welcoming to European armies. But.. (a) It is not just European armies that would come (b) Coasts are more important.

Hessians were winning, and one of the reason Delaware crossing and battle of Trenton worked was because US army, till that point, Continental army had performed so badly that Hessians did not took it as a serious threat. New York defence collapsed like a house of cards.

This map is also why any kind of coherent civil war is almost impossible. That's before you start looking at Army and Marine Corps demographics.
