By looking at actual life outcomes. Am I healthy, rich, and surrounded by friends? Or am I arguing with someone on r/Atheism at 4 am? For someone to really fall into the void they have to be A completely alone B completely insane. I don't think it happens often if at all.

How do you know those are the right metrics? How do you know these people are your friends? Once you've been making bad choices and thinking unclearly how can you ever be certain that you're coherent ever again rather than simply reaching deeper levels of stupefaction???
