we simply Do Not Know whether and when immunity wanes and this report tells us nothing new about this question it's N of fucking 1 for crying out loud, with limited immunological characterization to boot

"A big reason for limited immunity is that coronaviruses mutate all the time, such that immunity to one version of SARS-CoV-2 doesn't necessarily confer immunity to another strain." NO just NO

there is no evidence that immune escape plays a major role in reinfection for other coronaviruses and there is little reason to expect it for this one they mutate *slower* than other RNA viruses, and immune escape isn't even that common for faster mutating viruses

for the billionth time, measles mutates just as fast as flu and immunity to measles is lifelong same for polio

wtf are you talking about this doesn't make any sense at allhttps://twitter.com/Avik/status/1297866529485266944 …
halvorz ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ added,
Avik RoyVerified account @AvikThere's evidence that ORF8 (i.e., open reading frame 8 of the SARS-CoV-2 genome) is a key way that the coronavirus evades the human immune response. https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.24.111823v1.full.pdf … For the@hkumed patient, the truncated ORF8 may be why immunity from the first infection wasn't protective.Show this thread4 replies 2 retweets 67 likesShow this thread -
this is literally the *opposite* of what you'd expect if ORF8 is important for evading the immune response oh we knocked out the protein that helps it evade immunity and this made it evade immunity even better????? what

bottom line: please shut the fuck up just, fucking delete your account for all our sakeshttps://twitter.com/Avik/status/1297867819544203266 …
halvorz ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ added,
Avik RoyVerified account @AvikBottom line (and apologies for all the jargon). Bad news: vaccines may be very limited in their effectiveness because#COVID19 can be caused by many genetically different strains of the novel coronavirus. Good news: those mutated strains may be less lethal/virulent/dangerous.Show this thread9 replies 9 retweets 112 likesShow this thread -
Replying to @halvorz
I play a game with myself where I judge the credibility of a putative technical expert based on their tone and delivery and I thought you would enjoy knowing that this particular thread of yours maxes out the reliability meter
