though I think this also elides the possibility that there are real insights behind the fairness instinct e.g. the possibility that inequality itself has negative effects, regardless of total wealth/resources/etc

I do think there's something to this — the natures of the two genders (writ large, in aggregate, etc.) comes from differing reproductive roles and incentives, and those differences in incentives are ultimately material

really I do think it's childrearing — if you're relying on shared childcare you want everyone to get equal shares (best for your offspring), versus cooperating as a team to get the biggest possible kill (best for your offspring)
