Earlier today I spent some time shitting on this paper without a broader discussion of why I was doing so I shall hold forth on this matter now as I think it is revealing of the absolute state of empirical social science and microeconometrics in particularhttps://twitter.com/RRHDr/status/1295488617125687297 …

Wilfred Reilly @wil_da_beast630Another way of putting this is that the survival rate is 99.71% for white babies with white doctors, 99.11% for Black babies w white doctors, and 99.37% or so for BB with BD. This is the study. https://sci-hub.tw/https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1913405117 …Show this thread1 reply 2 retweets 12 likes -

This is less, “another dumb issue” and more “the explanation to your rant”. The effect actually is reasonably small, so the “the model must be trash because the effect sizes are too large” isn’t a proper argument.

This seems to be a science reporting issue more so than a science issue. I share a lot of the concerns you do about the state of econometrics, but the smugness here does get a bit tiring. Having an unfinished phd does not a statistical expert make.
