1939 to 1980 unemployment for college educated was close to 0%. The newspapers referred to the recession of 1982 as "the first white collar recession." But the big turning point was 2000. That was when USA family income went into decline.

Hmmm. Lotta things happened in the early 80s. Interesting that 82 hit white collar workers; I had reflexively thought about it as primarily affecting manufacturing, esp given the short+sharp nature Hmmmmmm
