Wait is there not something similar among dudes? I guess it could be a flip side of the way that men/boys aren’t socialized to rely on each other the way women/girls are, less opportunity for that to be exploited

In Europe at least, especially prevalent in the armies and crossover with civilian life. Protectors, patrons, mentors, etc. If it was as toxic? Probably not. Much more transactional in nature.

Older men who had contact and put younger men into positions could always use them for their one ends at some point in return for said patronage and “protection”. Nazi Germany and most authoritarian governments were this on steroids which is why they were a mess.
