this was something i really did not like about Consider Phlebas, lots of really dull blow-by-blow punching scenes. i think Iain Banks wisely did less of this later on

fight scenes are hard to sell in film - they can be sublime, examples abound - but there are a lot of fucken boring action movies too. imo its almost impossible in a novel
