It's incredible to me how rationalists (broadly construed) react to a slur like this, essentially saying that their entire community is just a bunch of nazis and just go "hm, I think that's wrong" rather than, like, reacting negatively against the "friendly", "playful" purveyor.

I just figured that lolrats don't believe people are rational and neither do I Maybe it's just a better branding (I don't think rats believe people are rational either?)
-
I don't think they particularly do no, selves included depending on what is meant by rational

Does anyone take issue w the read that continental nerds distancing themselves from analytic nerds just makes sense as a way to establish a distinctive identity, e.g. by dunking on the previous iteration source: was bay area rat from ~2010-2014, have followed developments

I think that's roughly correct although there have been some social causes of postrat evacuation

Postrats exist because some rats want to increase their status, not be surrounded by unaesthetic nerds, and get with hot girls. Being part of the rat community works against you pretty hard if you want this. Postrats see their epistemic standards as a worthwhile sacrifice.
