It was rough but there were some good times for the new media. No thanks to the federal government though. This was before YouTube existed (2004 lol)https://youtu.be/z8Q-sRdV7SY

Things weren't that bad, though generally corpses weren't broadcast out of respect for families.

I was around but hadn't really become a person yet (I claim that happened in my early 20s at best) so was probably clueless enough that I wasn't really aware of this at the time. Might also just be that this was mostly a US thing

I was 12 at the time, yet I feel like I had a sense of this. Which seems improbable. Am I projecting false memories from the reading I did in the years afterwards?? Or maybe the guys on my video game forums were posting about it... yea maybe that. Dudes were mad about Patriot Act

I remember people in the arts and entertainment world speaking out against the war constantly - like non-stop. Was it really that different in journalism? In any case, hardly a hegemony with almost the whole cultural class openly and passionately opposed to it.

Also, didn't Hitchens get more or less "excommunicated" from the left for supporting the war?
