Is choking is "safe and effective" on a person who you call an ambulance for who says they can't breathe?

Does the knee-to-neck restraint actually cause choking? Is there settled science on this matter? And if they were *trained* that it was safe and effective, why would they expect him to die from it?

Tazers are safe and effective. Except if someone has a pacemaker. If you know someone has a pacemaker, do you still stubbornly think its safe? I don't know the science. But not kneeling on someones neck who is having trouble breathing seems like common sense to me.

It was a bad decision, given what's come after. Describing it as murder seems absurd

IANAL, but 2nd degree murder doesn't seem absurd to me: "second-degree murder is defined as murder that is not premeditated, or murder that is caused by the offender's reckless conduct that displays an obvious lack of concern for human life."

Isn't that first degree? They charged him with 2nd, right?

theres a long medium post about this unsure where dissecting this in gory detail among other things it noted that (i) the officers said out loud they thought he was suffering from "excited delerium" and (ii) the MPD rulebook prescribes officers do exactly what Chauvin did

there was also a ton of analysis of the force involved in kneeling on someone's neck given a person of various weights . . . not sure how much I trust that but let me just dig it up
