This is crazy and horrifying: basically every mid-sized Middle American city is already experiencing insane real estate booms that make homebuying completely inaccessible to average residentshttps://twitter.com/tomroyce/status/1280144580931989504?s=21 …

Probably going to die down tho Most cities have way more room to grow than the old coasts (I think)

I’d like to move but for a variety of reasons. Can’t actively look unless I get a job elsewhere though

like a true Brooklyn Hipster, I escaped from New York before it was cool

gonna be completely honest here though: illegal fireworks and high homelessness have been features of the city FOREVER (and homelessness has gotten worse in the last 5 years especially). the NYPD throwing a tantrum after being called out as corrupt bastards is not the cause.

My guess is that the NYC people who have the means to respond quickly to that sort of pressure are already outside the city in a vacation house, and everyone else is sticking it out since there's a lot up in the air anyways and moving/transaction costs went way up

Chicagoan here, moving to Denver. Over one hundred shot, including four children shot dead in the last ten days. Riots and looting met with virtually no police response. I'm paying some of the highest taxes in the nation to live in fear. Fuck that.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbEgxKz6bKM …

The public transportation system is a crackhouse shelter on wheels: drug use, public urination, *lots* of harrassment. I'll miss the food and the architecture, but Chicago has a lot of problems, and no one there feels comfortable acknowledging it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLWxWj_oxaA …
