Because some random anecdotes of people maybe getting fired are the same as extrajudicial murders by the police? And out of curiosity, what are your feeling on at will employment?

Right. Because being against cancel culture means I must be against criminal justice reform, right? Where in the hell did I even remotely imply that? I'm a civil libertarian and was fundamental police reform and an end to cancel culture. >

I also think at-will employment is a problem, actully. Compounded by the fact that employers seem to think they're beholden to Twitter and fire people based on a phone call from an angry troll.

I think that where I disagree is that you have this idea that there is some epidemic of people being fired for Twitter trolls, while I think they are much more likely to be fired for wage theft or racism or sexism or taking some time off to take care of a sick relative.

It’s not even that I’m arguing that “cancel culture” doesn’t exist, it’s that I’ve seen no real evidence that it’s this epidemic that should be at the forefront of the national consciousness. Most of it seems like the sort of stupidity you could find at any point in our history.

And a lot of it seems to come from the fact that the traditional gatekeepers have failed/are failing and society is trying to figure out a new Overton window and it’s messy.

And actually, even more than the new window, I think society is trying to figure out how you even formulate the window in an America where far more people have the ability to contribute to the discourse than in any moment before this.

I guess I'm not buying that last point. I see a lot of people being silenced.

I think it’s unclear whether people are being silenced or if people just don’t like that there are consequences for speech, as there always have been. This article sums up my feelings relatively well: https://newrepublic.com/article/158346/willful-blindness-reactionary-liberalism …
