2000 was wonderful. The millenium and all of that. It was easy to be hopeful. I had a hard time going to bed the night the digit flipped, after nothing bad actually happened with Y2k. I was so excited about what might happen next in the world

Here, a poll to end things Would you rather survive the apocalypse and remember the before time in its glory and shining hope, and mourn it all your days; or be born after and grow up hearing only the legends knowing you would never live in such a world

Some words of encouragement: 1) there still is a small chance things will be alright. 2) now that we understand that bad things could happen, it is a good time to come up with plans. 3) once you start working on a project or a plan (any plan) you will feel a lot better.
-
4) if plan is bad, just come up with a new one

1/5 I think the cycle we are in repeats itself infinitely. A season of growth, and a season of survival, of change. In the former we build and grow until our colossal systems can scarcely bear their own weight. Then, in this season, we get a dark age. We regress. We fall apart.
-
2/5 We lose what we have built. We slip. But we find our footing again, always. The question is only how far down do we slip, and that's up to us. But even if we don't like this season, we couldn't grow straight and strong without it.

the future is still there, more beautiful than we can imagine. most people in the world do want a beautiful future. it's just a matter of disspelling ignorance, empowering people, coordinating. a difficult problem, but *soluble*. don't despair while there are paths forward.
-
exactly this the future isn't over it's just gonna be harder to reach than we were promised the world thought it had found Solutions when in fact it had merely Done Some Work now we'll have to Do Some More
