too many live players who are conflict oriented or ambitious or empire building oriented. maybe the mass movement will calm down but no way the wheels of history aren't turning imo.

Difference this time is lack of will to repair damage. Grey tribe is converging on Exit and it seems like the elements of Red Tribe capable of self awareness are as well.

For these current protests they consider it a victory if they can get Marvel and Disney to say black lives matter. In the French Revolution they would’ve kicked in Bob Igers door and beheaded him. These eras are not comparable.

Never mind the French Revolution all the liberal revolutions from 1789 into the 19th century were like that. Spikes in 1820s, 1830, 1848, 1870s all with low grade revolution in the middle. The metaphors of a century long inflammatory response against the old regime is apt.

the tl;dr of the future of America is that our saving throws are good enough that we're going to make most of them, but enough dice are being rolled that we're also practically guaranteed to make some of them.

Of course, all it takes is one big exogenous shock and all bets are off. If China-India goes hot or 9/11 2 happens or whatever, who knows what happens next?

There's some kind of oscillation with crises
Bad thing happens, things settle to new worse equilibrium
Not enough time passes for damage to get repaired, then another crisis (endogenous or exogenous) and the cycle repeats
