Still the case. Apparently there's a legal loophole that you can try for to keep both, but it requires many expensive legal hours without guaranteed positive outcome.

The number of generations and also your own age at time of application are factors for many EU passports. Some countries far more lax than others. Also Germany doesn't allow dual citizenship, so you'd have to renounce your current (US?) one.
