how would one go about telling a renowned economist that (at least one chapter of) the fifth edition of one of his textbook is very very bad?

would prefer not to say because i am not yet sufficiently sure that my criticisms are valid, so i might needlessly damage his reputation, or, more likely, my own. also it could be embarrassing if he namesearches.

Basically some are awful and some are great There's not much downside to dropping a politely-worded email to his faculty account with your specific objections tho Worst case he never reads it Best case he responds thoughtfully and you learn something Intermediate case hes Mad
