DNA is probably a local maximum in some "design space", and there are probably other local maxima. That on Earth we have DNA and not something else might have been influenced by: - elemental composition of Earth - temperature - radiation intensity - surface gravity (via pressure)

I think that if we found extraterrestial life based on DNA then it would be an argument for some form of panspermia hypothesis.
