hmmmm this has been in the works for a while (I think? No idea how long it takes to write a story) curious anglehttps://twitter.com/paulg/status/1275543764614987778?s=19 …

guys if we can get them to lay off just one more person wouldnt that be nice
to be clear I would prefer no one be laid off ceteris paribus I would be delighted if they simply developed a good policy around doxxing people like Scott still I will never fail in my duty to the sex number jokehttps://twitter.com/elmkast/status/1275576132239163393?s=19 …
on the other hand this also seems better than the baseline of doxxing Scotthttps://twitter.com/Altimor/status/1275534446368702464?s=19 …
commentary from writer at @TheAtlantic and something or other at Yale opposing doxxing
otoh, ironical bio,,,,,,,

referring earlier to comments re: internal journo comms, I think there is actually significance to these public statements by journalists for forming consensus around standards of practice consider the effect in your own circles of prominent figures taking such stances openly
nb I have no idea what makes someone prominent in Journalism or what reflects social clout I assume bylines listed in bios are a somewhat good standin for prestige but I have no idea how to read the particulars
these public statements are not cheap signals, either
@robertwrighter and @kausmickey were uneasy about shitting on the Sulzberger family in a @bloggingheads episode a week or two back because of the social/career implications
such stances are potentially costly.
re internal operation at @nytimes, this would not surprise me at all
unsure how to counter this most effectively
entirely possible criticism makes them double down
hard to say really

hmm
@amber_athey at @SpectatorUSA has a piece
pro Scott natch, rides the privacy angle hard
still not stoked about right media bias in coverage, feels like another bit of partisan war which might be counterproductivehttps://spectator.us/new-york-times-private-slate-star-codex-blog/ …
Similarly @dcexaminer
This one is really tiresome honestly. @RT_com tier.https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/new-york-times-threatens-to-out-science-blogger-after-protecting-identities-of-white-house-turncoats-and-chapo-trap-house-podcasters …
pithy observationhttps://twitter.com/Gent_Sausage/status/1275463806534238208?s=19 …
no idea how to evaluate credibility but interesting take on Metz probably if this affair gets big enough it ends up a barroom brawl knives coming out all overhttps://medium.com/@garyweiss_86200/cade-metz-pulls-a-deep-capture-on-slate-star-codex-da649e8efe7 …
from @BostWiki whomstdve I know nothing about
hes pretty confident it's a hit piecehttps://youtu.be/HiAhDKKrinI
I appreciate the perspective although I wish that he had not put on a jacket without a collared shirt
well well well
this was perhaps inevitable
NYT has a slack channel with 2000(!!) users
apparent at least one dislikes what NYT is doing so much that he leaked news of the internal Discourse to @thedailybeast
ht @QiaochuYuan

as I think I mentioned above or elsewhere, hunch is that this gets resolved on the basis of dynamics internal to journalism as a profession or perhaps as a consequence of social structure of @nytimes itself
Looks like the story is in fact not dead https://twitter.com/asglidden/status/1278459220174573568?s=19 …
hmm elsewhere,,, https://twitter.com/spakhm/status/1278223873951989761?s=19 …
hmmmm veers from balanced to loving to occasionally schoolmarm-ish seems like there's not much story left for NYT unless it's "we talked to everyone with an axe to grind against Scott, who is now a Public Figure after New Yorker wrote on him" (??) https://www.newyorker.com/culture/annals-of-inquiry/slate-star-codex-and-silicon-valleys-war-against-the-media …
