generally SSC was the best blog on the internet the author wrote about psychiatry, science generally, and culture, mixed with some extremely fun short fiction. hard to get the gestalt except to say it was excellent and kind, and Scott must be protected

Heard as much. Will check the posts. But what was controversial? And why was he afraid - eg. why did he need to go anon (apparently he felt he was unsafe without that cloak)?

He wrote some thoughtful and patient criticisms of leftist discourse that won him a horde of angery leftists (He was equal opportunity about this; he also wrote a detailed critique of neoreaction, but they took it in stride I think)

Generally in the US, at this point, if you critique Woke and you're named publicly you're typically fired and unpersoned. I wish I could report that things were better.

Got it. Likely just a phase which'll pass. Was he at the IDW end of the spectrum or somewhere in between.

You could probably lump him in conceptually with IDW but he wasn't part of it socially or as a label, and he both preceded it and surpassed it in quality by a mile Mostly he just wants to blog and do effective altruism :/
