an idea much ink has been spilled about the necessity of religion (or not) for motivating moral behavior perhaps if there is no revealed morality, Man will have no reason (after habits fade) to be Good but lets suppose the reverse is true

boy itd be really interesting for a society to pivot to a mass secular model and lose that direction wonder what people would do en masse when they sought to satisfy their now-unsatisfied need for moral direction

Religion is a social construct; but it probably mostly about having a short-cut to identifying cultural compatibilities.

The notion of Good is not just an abstract concept that anything can fill, it generally points in a somewhat consistent direction. This isn't to say that culture and institutions can't have a large impact on that, but what it ends up pointing to isn't totally arbitrary.

A good person is one who loves my friends and hates my enemies. A religion is one kind of division of friends and enemies that everyone adheres to so they can be mutually good. Without religion, people will negotiate new divisions.
