one thing that leaves me feeling sanguine in the medium term but perhaps not short or long terms is that I haven't seen any coverage of this in center left publications basically feels like they're running cover for such events and this is interesting to me becausehttps://twitter.com/JenDowlingKoin6/status/1273869654109249536 …

if said media thought this was actually a narrative win they'd saturate the tubes with it which implies a certain lack of conviction, I think

Coverage was definitely friendly. Note juxtaposition with confederate statues and highlighting slave ownership. https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/19/us/portland-george-washington-statue-toppled-trnd/index.html …

What strikes me as odd is that it is not plastered all over the Fox News front page. I do not see it at all on there. You'd think they'd jump on that like a starving dog on a bone.

Thinking it over, my best guess is that they're afraid of setting off their Large Adult President. None of the other explanations make any sense.

Could be trying to keep their heads down, too. Something something demonetization?

Doubt it. They've aired way more controversial stuff than "maybe George Washington was good?" IMO, from a propaganda perspective, their optimal move would be to give a simple factual narrative (there was a statue of GW that got torn down,) then let the other side play defense.

Expect the response would be to simply ignore it. Why respond, negligible overlap in narrative consumption Idk Pretty down about the potential for patriotism to save anything at this point

I mean, it is odd though, right? Like, they've literally engaged in outright fabrication before to stir the pot. (Most recently being the manipulated image incident.) But the leading story on their website is their Big Handsome Boy having his party in Oklahoma.

I think, for whatever reason, they have decided they do not want the president to tweet about this.
