the last cycle of this started at about this time in 2015 and continued until maybe late 2017? about 2 1/2 years before the woke vanguard had overextended and went back into remission. I'd predict this cycle to be similar to the last one.

it won't end, ever, btw. these cultural currents have been part of America for hundreds of years. the only thing that seems different this time is the susceptibility of image-conscious corporations to play along with it.

Given that corporations and unis are the only large nongovernment institutions left in america this seems pretty bad

i'm pretty concerned too, yeah. the thing I don't feel like I have a handle on is whether corps go full tilt into it the way unis have, or if they remain merely opportunistic and keep their engagement shallow and inconsequential (which has been their historical approach).

otoh McCarthyism only lasted for about 4 years before a spokesperson for a "silent majority" (I use the term reluctantly but it seems to fit) was able to end it. there are limits to the toleration of ideological excess in this country. The pragmatic current runs deep too.
