things that would very quickly happen include the dissolution of California and most of not all of it rejoining the union that is the good scenario the bad scenario is the subsequent dissolution of the united states into warring camps and the collapse of the global economy

i cant find an article on the event, but at one point mattis and tillerson and some third guy basically dragged trump into a room and deliberately walked him through the global deployment of us troops and trade and economic agreements that currently exist

trade and peace dont just "happen", they occur within and atop a metasystem of treaties, finance, and military integrations if you perturbate that system a bit, smaller economies collapse and minor wars break out if you remove the core?

don't have a good reference on hand (and wrt military that is a real cost :/ ) but the idea is that you can think of legislators having stronger or weaker opinions on a bill port lets people with strong opinions try to wrangle people with weaker opinions to their side
