I am in no way convinced that fostering paranoia, even in the opposed party, is ever a good call. Paranoia, like bioweapons, does not recognize bounders, geographic or otherwise : it will come back to bite your faction in the metaphorical ass.

It's been used down here before, but we have an open primary (where you declare when you go in to vote). Some states have already cut this off with closed primaries and rules about how long you have to be registered before you can vote. It's an old Tammany Hall trick.

They have. It was a common objection to "open primaries", where voters in (eg) California could be stuck choosing between two members of the same Party.
