Being Israeli in the US. Israeli has lively political debates on every single issue and a wide Overton window, but Americans can't grok a "Zionist socialist environmentalist" bc everyone has a signaling opinion on Israeli politics that's derived from their other positions.

being an israeli in the US is a fucking trip, because you literally cannot mention it without some american feeling the need to tell you their thoughts on the israel v. palestine conflict. an entire country, nationality, and identity reduced to "sand guys that fight other guys."

this is insane to me because I've met / worked with some Israelis and the idea of actually asking them about their politics seems impossibly rude but i may be an outlier in this regard

my only advice to any americans wishing to bring up the topic to *ask* for their thoughts. and just do that. i've had too many younger, "woke" BDS types try to correct *me* on the history of *my* country and I kind of just can't help but give them the costanza look.pic.twitter.com/rgqC8kjAN8
