I mean I've got a theory. Preamble: I CHOOSE to live outside of the South. I'm more than willing to lay out the flaws of the place, otherwise I would choose to move back. It's just that racism isn't one of them. Body:

Almost all of the *overt* white racism I've experienced was in the South - and that is exactly why the South is less racist. So if you grow up in the South you'll almost certainly eventually see it (though rarely), and you'll think, "Ugh. Gross. I don't want to be like that."
