I think some of the most intense hate many Mexican-Americans receive is from other Mexicans. The Discourse would perhaps explain this as "internalized hatred" or "internalized whiteness," but this hate is often imported from the class divide of Mexico it's often explicit.

There's an approximate divide in Mexico between the high-class, wealthier, tougher work ethic crowd and the lower-class, lower income, laid back work ethic one. Much of Mexican politics involves these 2 groups hating on each other for "ruining Mexico."

Many of the former group who immigrate to the US do not identify with the latter group and will enthusiastically vote Rep and Trump to keep them out. The Discourse views both groups as singular "people of color" and is not equipped to understand the mutual hate.

In fact, the Discourse condescendingly recommends that "POC without internalized whiteness" will vote Dem with their POC allies. This is a very Americentric way to view politics. Many Mexicans vote Rep because they dislike modern Mexico and do not want to see its flaws come here

For more information on the country's many cultural divides, I highly recommend "Mañana Forever?" by
@JorgeGCastaneda. I think the metaphor of "the two Mexicos" really hits the nail on the head (if it's original to him, not sure).1 reply 1 retweet 4 likes
This is completely new to me and I really appreciate having it unwound. Thank you!
