Poland - WWII (my version: we were among the good guys, we lost, but at least we were not obliterated) - Smolensk air disaster - this is very recent, 2010, but very important. Though maybe the importance fades a little bit.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smolensk_air_disaster …

I think "the general public" in Poland easily remebers 3 events: - WWII, - Smolensk - the Partitions of Poland https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partitions_of_Poland … The Partitions are a huge topic in scholl, not only history lessons, but also polish literature (largery in opposition / commentary to them)

How big an event Smolensk was? Very big. Was it bigger than Corona in Poland? Hard to say (the present crisis is still ongoing). But I can say that the comparison is not insane.pic.twitter.com/f8fAIXVTum
