my objection to ed schools is that they legitimize teachers

You're trolling here, but what else if not teachers? You cannot oppose teachers in principle. Like: you cannot opose the platonic idea of teacher. Or maybe you do, but if you do, what's the alternative? Seriously. What better?

Replying to @VectorOfBasis @eigenrobot and
I mean: okay maybe current implementation of this idea is bad, maybe "super bad". Okay. But what's the alternative?

most people should simply not go to school of those that do benefit from an education old style apprenticeships would probably serve them better

Eigenrobot's society would be much different! I wonder, how much time have you spent thinking about this? This is not a jab, I want to get an estimate of your conviction etc. I mean, this is radically different to things I used to believe you be most basic

probably the biggest failure mode is "what if crushing children into servility is good actually" but i cant actually bite that bullet a second, the same as the first but for social conformity the rest seems pretty straightforwardly positive:

1. most students learn little in school especially to the amount of effort they put in 2. their retention of this learning is probably terrible, how many books do you figure the median american adult reads per year? I bet its zero

3. (2) is related to the fact that outside technical fields very little of what people learn in school is relevant to their work or home life and the bits that are relevant could be taught far more cheaply, both in terms of a student's time and in terms of financial outlays

I tend not to actively think about this directly because its extremely blackpilled but I do drift into it a lot
