hating Megan McArdle specifically is a sign of some kind of personal failing some ppl go around furious about her and its never reasoned criticism always kind of unhinged but shes basically just a nice and brutally practical housewife persona shes offensive only if your crazy https://twitter.com/reaIDickMNixon/status/1253342320117682177 …

What are the arguments for getting people "to try acid at least once" Have you done a formalized cost-benefit analysis?

no, i haven’t done a cost-benefit analysis; i don’t think it’s necessary in this case reasons why acid is useful include: - it’s an interesting and enjoyable experience - it can help you understand how your brain works - some people have reported life-changing epiphanies

You mentioned elsewhere that there is "hangover", as if brain was "fried" after taking acid. How fried is "fried"? What is the risk of permament damage?

what i’m describing is just that when i’m coming down from acid i tend to feel kinda worn out, like i’ve had too much to feel and think (acid can be intense, so that makes sense) it’s always tolerable, it’s always gone by the next day, and i think it’s absolutely worth it

i’m not aware of any research that would indicate this causes permanent damage—i’m pretty sure this ‘hangover’ (if it can be called that) is just a psychological reaction to a sort of overstimulation. i’m not worried about it

yeah I find myself pretty drained after most hallucinogens worth noting that acid is a stimulant in addition to the hallucinogenic effects, although it manifests pretty differently than eg amphetamines
