Im sure there are some advantages to textual bases for belief but my hunch is that they become net impediments once ppl become literate at rates sufficient to actual read the text anyway thats what ive learned all hail the Christianity of letterless medieval peasants

I think it's less about finding justification for it and more about using it to deny other stuff you don't like in the Bible it's a tool not a doctrine

Everybody does this with everything though. Tradition works the same way. There's so much said by church fathers, saints, bishops, you can make anything you want it of it.

I mean there’s really not a lot of scriptural support for it, if any. For each verse that seems to point to sola fide, there’s one going the exact opposite direction
