At the moment we're at my in-laws place, but we a) rent a flat in a big city, and b) have a mortgage on a new flat in the same big city. A lot of our stuff is in the old flat. The new flat is 70% ready to be moved into: we are waiting for the customized kitchen furniture.

Installation of the kitchen furniture requires us to move the dishwasher and washing machine from the old flat to the new flat b/c these appliances need to be fitted to the furniture / the furniture fitted to them.

Also, we're paying for the rented flat non-negligible money. We could keep paying without living there for one or two months, but for a year? Unlikely. We have a lot of stuff there. So moving is not an easy operation.

If we do move, we'd use what precautions we can: hand sanitizer, gloves, masks. We have some cloth masks, some old (and already used a few times) surgical masks (bought when sonny was a newborn and grandma had an infection). We will have a few "universal-size N95 masks".

Something is better than nothing but of course these precautions don't give 100% protection. The thing is: in-laws are over 60 years old, and grandma, over 80yo, lives with them. So this is mostly about their safety. I have asthma and a history of respiratory infections.

*Maybe* after moving our stuff I could isolate in my aunt's place (now empty) for maybe 7 days. I think hard to isolate there for longer than a week for several reasons (no internet, bad cellphone reception - cannot work).

Also my wife is super tired as it is, and if I was away for say 10 days (3 days moving + 7 days isolation) it would be hard on her. Our 2yo is really very absorbing.

What should I do? What is the responsible thing to do? Responsible to my family and the broader society?
@eigenrobot@orthonormalist any thoughts?@amelapay You were moving some 1.5 months ago. Did you hire help? Would you do it again, or rather delay moving, if given a chance?3 replies 0 retweets 1 likeShow this thread
