new angle is "giving Zoey an excellent life" a goal? I mean yes technically I guess does it feel like things feel when I say they are goals? not remotely

this is part of it! there are also some goals that have a planning-cost but that aren't as fraught as others, and carry no implicit fear (plants)https://twitter.com/orthonormalist/status/1248533918187261952?s=20 …

My next step (after introspection) is there are some goals that feel like goals but as long as we maintain on our course, some goals that don't feel like goals as long as we maintain on our course, and some goals that feel like goals that require a change in course.

Which makes me think (controls, lol) that it's about mustering the control force to either direct or change actions from our 'counterfactual where we did not have to make this explicit' to close out perceptual control error (though I am not a PCT pro)

I think a thing I am struggling with here is that you have to know why the system isn't already doing the thing to make a course-change, yeah?

Perhaps reconciled by 'the narrative in our head is the visible bit of system reconciliation'

I don't think it's as simple as narrative alteration, though (unsure if that's what you were implying) if a narrative *rings false* or just isn't already the sort of narrative you can already believe about yourself, why not?

I think a lot of issues go away when I realize the thoughts in my head are a post-hoc legibilization of deeper systems...though that raises questions about symbolic manipulation

Y'all think too hard about your internal narratives. I think about what I do/thought, the outcome and my preferred outcome. Then I think how do I game myself to get the preferred outcome.
