I wouldn’t expect resistance to advertising to arise from mere exposure. If that were true, then one would expect to see less advertising aimed at older (and hence more “resistant”) demographics which does not seem to be the case.

I would expect any “resistance” to the effects of advertising to arise in a manner similar to emotional regulation broadly speaking, which requires a certain critical view of one’s self and inner experience (acknowledging the stoking of desire without succumbing to it).
