yeah this is a thought I had a while ago, seems possible that actually the entire project of trying to prevent new pandemics has been counterproductive

there is an active debate about the value of screening wildlife for viruses most think it is worthwhile, as do I but as a tool for actually directly preventing pandemics it's probably not as useful as a global surveillance network for human infections

looking for unusual diseases and rapidly sequencing, presumably with labs devoted to fast characterization basically let the viruses come to us first because that way we know where to devote our resources too many viruses otherwise https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-05373-w?proof=trueNov …
