And it was Laschet’s call. Tbf, I’m really not a fan of his foreign policy, but knows if he’ll become the conservative party’s candidate. I guess a lot depends on his current work as M-P of NRW https://twitter.com/costa11235/status/1244379831934074882?s=21 …https://twitter.com/costa11235/status/1244379831934074882 …

Fun fact, he used to be a professor. & he lost some exams. Long story short, he lied about it and just gave the grades by memory. Not sure what happened after that, but faculty today still laughs about the incident

In fact, He and Sörer, who’s by all accounts not vying for job (he’s in the CSU, the Bavarian sister party of the CDU, which only campaigns in Bavaria) are in major cockfight about who’s the better corona fighter, lol

As such, Bavaria was the first state to announce curfews, whereas Laschet‘s voiced concerns about such grave interference with personal freedoms. The whole public spat was solved during an all states/feds video conference.

Söder’s Bavaria went ahead with additional more drastic measures anyway

And re German FP: https://twitter.com/chheinzel/status/1244347648733261829?s=21 … I’d broadly agree with the sentiment shared here. Still, I’d rather a laschet does not become the next chancellorhttps://twitter.com/chheinzel/status/1244347648733261829 …

However I doubt Merz is gonna become the candidate either, he’s kinda the Hillary Clinton of the conservatives, the lefties would crush him, i fear. Also he’s been away from German politics for 2 decades, the caravan moved on without him & that’s ok

I saw that reply. I mean, he’s got some solid positions,,, but also lots of easily exploitable weaknesses. And I’d rather the greens and social dems not embrace stupid ideas and form a coalition with the far lefties. Merz is not running a state, Laschet and Söder are tho
