Yeah. Ugly truth is likely the fact that it mostly kills older people, so seems 'natural' when it absolutely shouldn't.

what would a society that takes influenza more seriously look like? I can't think of anything that wouldn't apply to disease more generally, like paid sick leave, better health insurance, making sure hospitals have the equipment they need... is that what you're talking about?

We can eradicate CV19 because the case numbers are still low, and it's worth doing because fatality is high. We can't (easily) eradicate seasonal flu because it's endemic and mutating, and it's not worth doing because fatality is low (relatively speaking). So we live with it.

also there is vaccine which at least mitigates severity, and antivirals which help some.
