In 1860 people still had some vestige of independent thought and political ideas outside the system. Again, there is no slack, no spare capacity, there is just what is in front of us and that's all anybody knows or thinks about.

Try it. Just try it. Get in front of a bunch of regular people and say, "The R and the D have both thread-fastenered the canine, how about we all vote for somebody else?" You will get, not laughter, but confusion. I can only vote for who's on the card. Who's on the card is R & D.

Write somebody in? That's what those Libertarian jerks do. That's for crazy people, cranks, malcontents. I posit that people will actively riot in large numbers before they will consider voting third party in large numbers.

There's not a man (or woman, or any other category) alive who could rise up out of this crab pot high enough to start pulling the rest of us out. They made an insensitive remark in 1984, you wanna talk feet of clay, this person is made of clay up to their chin.
