bad thought suppose that there exist places in the world where war does not occur because of the presence of logistically-supported US troops suppose that we experience an economic collapse what would the US response be? what responses would be possible?

US response during an economic collapse will be curtailed everywhere except Asia RN. MENA is now a strategic backwater and Russia is incapable of just rolling everyone in EU anymore. The V4 and the Finns would have a good chance just by themselves.

Asia would be scary though. The Chinese have miscalculated US response to their propaganda campaign and I think they’re about to push. Sink a carrier and nukes are on the table I think.

If it gets bad enough you just hand about 40 to Taiwan or Japan or Vietnam and China is pretty much permanently boxed.

A lot of the reasons for us preventing a nuclear Taiwan in the 70’s are gone now.

Was just wondering earlier why we don't have troops there

Cause Nixon. We had to withdraw troops to get relations with the PRC. It was the right call tho. We needed them to be on our side or at least neutral to balance the Soviets. We just took it too far after 1989.

We can’t go back to that without a nuclear war, unfortunately. They will nuke Taiwan before they see a single American soldier there.
