Dumb question Can we mass synthesize isolated covid antigens and just inject them I assume there is a good reason we are not doing this

Large scale production of proteins is not _that_ simple. I think you'd need to develop a new strain of bacteria / yeast which would produce this efficiently. And then you'd need to develop some purification process. Scaling up is not trivial (but def doable)

Some proteins need to be expressed in more "exotic" hosts, less amenable to bioreactor production. I think this was the case with ZMapp, the antibody drug for Ebola. It was expressed in tobacco iirc
