The common cold is caused by more than 200 different, related viruses, (according to Wikipedia), constantly mutating, so a vaccine is impractical (or, rather, 200+ different vaccines).

Don’t even want to say this but: I think it’s possible this virus mutates into several strains, some possibly deadlier/more contagious than the current 2 strains, given its high mutability and high host population. Don’t know biology too well but I know stats
