The idea of later work or people imitating previous ones and eventually becoming a more complete instance of what they were trying to imitate about the original thing, is very real, I think. But that is a type of ‘standing on the shoulders of [whoever]’.

That also has the danger of becoming a caricature of it goes too far; in other words something very recognizable but unrealistic and unbalanced and thus undesirable in real life.

But seriously, if the internal state as felt by the person is what’s important, faking it (externally or even attempting to internally) is of course playing a game against oneself. I know you know this, just clarifying I guess.
