I don't know about that scale, but I'm pretty sure there was some kind of era that began with the fall of the Berlin wall that is now officially end abruptly over

I don't know, the status quo seemed to double down after 9/11. A professional military went and did the dirty work with long wars of such low intensity that people essentially forgot they existed while at home consumerism took off more than ever

everything felt different idk do you remember much of the 90s? Unsure of your age Was talking about this matter with an older economist at the Fed on 9/11, 2009 May be hard to recall but the boundless optimism pre-9/11 was real That never came back

I was 13 when 9/11 happened, it certainly didn't seem nothingburger but personally I felt normalcy come back within weeks. It was actually when I started reading more about economics a couple years after the 2008 crisis that I got some kind of blackpilled.

Prior to around 2011, I was still very naive and had that the sky is the limit feeling. I also remember around the time I became more pessimistic having a lot of arguments with friends who would fight tooth and nail to protect their normalcy bias

90s optimism was a psychological window between the end of the cold war and beginning of 'War on Terror' but no one forgot the 1980s when nuclear conflict and sex plague and evangelical millenarianism was all the rage it wasn't naive optimism; it was waiting for a shoe to drop

That's an interesting take, I felt a similar way from 2013 until right about now. Initially I kept thinking about trying to change people's minds or prepare myself in some way before deciding it was futile and I'll cross whatever bridge when I come to it

The boundless optimism started when the Berlin Wall fell. It seemed like liberal democracy had triumphed eternally.
