Gabriel Retweeted Professor Ian Donald
I think this is actually a much better idea than it sounds, this is the best tweet from the threadhttps://twitter.com/iandonald_psych/status/1238518390488252416?s=20 …
Gabriel added,
Professor Ian Donald @iandonald_psych12. The Italian (and others) strategy is to stop as much infection as possible - or all infection. This is appealing, but then what? The restrictions are not sustainable for months. So the will need to be relaxed. But that will lead to reemergence of infections.Show this thread4 replies 0 retweets 3 likes -

kind of confused by the idea that social and movement restrictions are not sustainable for "months" why wouldn't they be? lots of countries had 'states of emergency', banned large gatherings, and used curfews for *years*, even indefinitely.

cost of that (even in terms of lives) could quickly exceed total death toll from the disease very quickly but i think it's actually a bit of a distraction bc i don't think this is going back in the box, social restrictions or no

i'm pretty skeptical that universal homeschooling (or no schooling), no mass gatherings, and no unnecessary travel would quickly exceed total death tolls that seem to be rising at 25% per day indefinitely and taiwan seems to have nearly already put it back in the box

yeah look not going to pretend to have expertise - you might be right, but: - death toll pretty stable at 2-3% (bad, but not 25%) - idk it's as easy as universal homeschooling; big economic = personal costs to shutting down work, esp for people close to or at poverty lines

but! obviously we'll see how this plays out. fingers very crossed that both uk and us make it out without messing this up terribly

IMO, if this plays out "as planned" with a 2% death rate of an infected 60% of the population, the members of the government who ordered it stand a good chance of being ceausescu'd
