basically I'm thinking that most major disasters (wars, diseases, other?) tilt things away from forager norms and toward farmer norms, a la @robinhanson maybe 2010(?)

The way I'd slice it is rural vs urban, which seems to map better onto many specific developments. Could also call it local vs global. "Farmer vs forager" might be a deeper / truer carving-of-reality from first principles, but seems harder to use in specific situations, ymmw
