I feel like I have some major foundational difference with a lot of postrat twitter, and I can't tell whether this is because of: 1. A different way of conceptualising what is more or less the same thing. 2. A different stage in the journey. 3. An actual philosophical difference

GeniesLoki Retweeted Cow Appreciator Rival Voices
https://twitter.com/nosilverv/status/1232263705385197569 … is a pretty good example of this. Within this very specific subgroup, nosilverv's stance here is basically orthodox, and I'm definitely in agreement that "just be yourself" is shit advice, but his advice also doesn't work for me.

Like I have a very specific toolkit for dealing with anxiety and my anxiety levels have practically flatlined over the last couple of months, so I'm reasonably confident it's a decent toolkit for me, but it's a much more cerebral process than postrat twitter seems to want.

It very much integrates a lot of the things like being comfortable with your feelings, leanring new ways of being, etc. etc. and cannot be done without that, but it also involves a lot of thinking and very verbalised exploring.

And the advice to try to do it without that feels like telling someone "Yes I know you have a giant frickin' laser cannon, but have you considered that instead of shooting your problems with it you could eliminate the desire to fire lasers at things?"

And yes, I could eliminate that desire, but it seems a waste of a good laser cannon.

Actually here's a better metaphor for what it feels like (and I'm not claiming this is 100% true, just what it feels like). Suppose I'm in New York and I want to be in Boston. What do I do? Well e.g. I could drive, I could take a train, or I could walk it.

Walking it has many advantages. Becoming the sort of person who has the skill and stamina to do that walk would be great for me. Walking is absolutely a viable way to make that journey. Walking it might even be life improving. I will doubtless learn things by doing it.

But, y'know, most of the time when I want to get to Boston I'm still going to drive, because I have access to a technology that makes it significantly easier and more convenient to get to Boston than walking, and I'm going to do this even if I've previously done the walk.

Postrats sound like they think that relying on technology to solve my getting-to-Boston problem will be bad for me, and that if I really want to solve my problems then I should walk it, but this is an obviously ridiculous position even if they're right about how great walking is.

I think I know what you mean by this and it makes sense
