I’m all for practicing caution and safety with coronavirus but at least in tech/sf, it feels like it’s been a circus of prepper fantasies come true and this-is-super-exponential-we-are-all-gonna-die with some expert takes from engineers turned epidemiologists

I don’t think the narrative of “we’re all young anyway, dw about it” is much better either. There’s obviously real concern for your parents/family, poorer Americans, etc

I shouldn’t really be singling out techies l, this is true of all communities, but I guess it’s particularly annoying to me given that it’s a group which is relatively well insulated from whatever happens, intellectual hubris and relative indifference to the more vulnerable
