ppl expressing confusion over Bloomberg's stated goal of stopping Sanders given that his presence in the race is clearly improving Sanders' chance of winning should consider that Bloomberg will likely run as an independent if it ends up Sanders-vs-Trump in the general election

strangely enough, Bloomberg doing well in the Democratic nomination contest but ultimately losing to Bernie could be an okay scenario for him, since plurality-rule voting means that the presence of a strong (well-funded) 3rd candidate allows a winner w/ less than 50% of the vote

Bloomberg would probably have no chance at an independent bid if the Democrats nominate anyone other than Bernie, so in a way, Bloomberg's positive effect on Sanders' chances is sort of ~subgame perfect~ (in a non-technical sense, please do not @ me)

indeed, if Bloomberg were to actually win the Democratic nomination, there might very well be massive turmoil in the party & possibly a strong independent run from Sanders, so it's not even clear how much worse Bloomberg running as an independent would be in terms of his chances

good reminder about the electoral college. even if Bloomberg did win states as an independent, he probably couldn't get enough to win outright, throwing it to the House & thus probably Trump so maybe the whole thing is an insane power delusion after allhttps://twitter.com/eigenrobot/status/1227809277118578689 …

The quickest path to killing our Senate chances is allowing this piece of shit to scheme. Social democracy is so dangerous that they'd rather split the vote.

It just happened in the UK. A sovereign wealth fund was so dangerous that the libdems would rather split the vote and lose to the Tories than win with Labour.
